This course seeks to develop practical skills in social research techniques. It is designed for those with an undergraduate degree in the social sciences who wish to deepen their knowledge of social research techniques and the different kinds of evidence used to investigate contemporary social issues.
The minimum requirement for entry is one of the following: a three-year bachelors degree in sociology or any cognate discipline with at least a credit average in the final year; or a three-year bachelors degree with demonstrable professional experience at senior level in a relevant area (such applicants will need to supply a CV, a 1000-word statement and names of two professional referees).

With the permission of the coordinator, one of these units may be replaced with an approved 12-point, level 4 elective from the faculties of Arts, Business and Economics, or Information Technology.
Students who complete the course with a grade of credit average or above are eligible to apply for entry into the Master of Applied Social Research (see above), which involves undertaking a research project or advanced coursework.
