Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Sciences - Community Mental Health

Course code: 1976 Off-campus (offered jointly by Monash's Department of Psychological Medicine and Melbourne University's Department of Psychiatry) + Full-fee-paying course: $TBC (Australian residents); $23,000 (international students)

The course is designed to develop skills and knowledge in contemporary mental health practice. It caters for health care and allied health care workers working within the mental health and psychiatric disability fields who wish to upgrade and develop their practice in modern community mental health care.

Entry requirements

Entry is open to graduates of nursing, social work, psychology, medicine, psychiatry, occupational therapy and similar disciplines with relevant experience in a mental health setting.

Attendance

Attendance at a three-day workshop is encouraged each semester.

Course structure

The course is offered in the off-campus learning mode over four semesters part-time. The first year of the course has four units focusing on the following areas:

Assessment

Assessment consists of written reports or essays (generally 4000 to 5000 words per unit per semester) demonstrating understanding and integration of the course material.
