Graduate Certificate in Mental Health for Teaching Professions

Course code: 2346 + Off-campus (Department of Psychological Medicine, Monash Medical Centre) + Full-fee-paying course: $TBC (Australian residents) (not available to international students)

The course is directed towards members of the teaching profession and other related professions who work with children in school settings and wish to improve their understanding of mental health issues, particularly the environmental, social and emotional factors which influence the mental development of children and adolescents. It also provides practical information on how to use this theoretical understanding productively in classroom and school settings. The course acknowledges and supports the central role of the teacher in the development of optimum mental health in the school population.
Successful completion of the certificate will provide credit for entry into the second year of the on-campus Diploma in Mental Health for Teaching Professions.

Entry requirements

Applicants should have a minimum three-year undergraduate qualification, preferably in the field of education and/or be employed in an appropriate role within an educational organisation.

Attendance

Optional on-campus introductory session at the commencement of the course.

Advanced standing for previous studies

Advanced standing for MHT0001 will be considered upon application.

Course structure

The course will be conducted via off-campus learning over one year part-time and comprises the following core units:

Assessment

Assessment consists of a combination of written assignments, threaded discussion group participation and possible special projects.

Professional recognition

The course is recognised by Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST) as an appropriate program for professional development.
