The double degree is designed to equip students with a broad range of skills appropriate to work in a variety of vocations. The disciplines from which students may select units for inclusion in the double degree are those taught by the School of Humanities, Communications and Social Sciences and those taught by the Faculty of Business and Economics - Gippsland.
Satisfactory completion of the VCE, including English units 3 and 4 with a study score of at least 25, plus any two units from General Mathematics or Mathematical Methods at the unit 1 and 2 level. Students who have completed the first year of the normal Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Business and Commerce at the Gippsland campus with good academic results may be admitted to the second year of the double degree with full credit for appropriate first-year studies. All applicants should be willing to undertake a normal workload of eight units per year full-time or four units per year part-time by off-campus learning.
Students with previously completed or partially completed tertiary studies should complete an application for advanced standing to apply for credits and exemptions. The onus is on the student to provide course records and details of course content and duration (including extracts from relevant handbooks). Students in this category are advised to complete a course plan prior to the commencement of study to ensure they will complete the major/s or minor they intend. As a general rule, credits will not be granted for studies completed more than 10 years prior to the date of enrolment in the current course.
All applicants should be willing to undertake a normal initial workload of at least 24 points a year by off-campus learning. Off-campus learning students should note that this may have implications regarding eligibility for Austudy or similar schemes. In later years of the course, the normal workload will vary between 24 and 32 points per year, but there is scope to vary this under some circumstances.
Classes will be held in some units at each weekend school. Normally, this will include lectures and seminars or tutorials. Attendance at weekend school classes is recommended, but not compulsory for the completion of most units offered within the double-degree program.
Students must complete 204 points including 96 points from the Faculty of Arts and 108 points from the Faculty of Business and Economics.
To complete the Bachelor of Business and Commerce component,
students must:
(a) complete six compulsory units:

major of 48 points, including at least 12 points at each of second and third
levels (one core unit from part (a) may form part of the 48 points
requirement). Business majors: accounting, business law, economics, e-business,
human resource management, international business, management, marketing
(c) complete at least 24 points at third-year level (the business major meets
part of this requirement).
To complete the Bachelor of Arts component, students must:
(a) complete an arts major of 48 points
(b) complete an arts minor of 24 points
(c) complete a third first-year sequence of 12 points
(d) complete a minimum of 24 points at third-year level (the arts major meets
part of this requirement).
* Students must use their two elective units in arts to complete an APS-accredited psychology major (60 points).
