Monash University offers courses in a variety of modes. These include
on-campus group teaching and a variety of forms of off-campus delivery. These
modes are designed to cater for different students having different needs and
expectations. It is important for our prospective students to understand their
options and to choose a program and mode of study that best meets their
individual needs.
Off-campus learning is a flexible mode of study. Most commonly it is based on a
combination of independent learning materials and learning support systems,
with attendance by students at a teaching site being either not required or
kept to a minimum. Each unit studied has the same content and assessment as the
equivalent on-campus unit.
One variation of this approach, used in a small number of courses, involves
supplementing the independent learning materials and support systems with
regular group tutorial/study sessions, usually in collaboration with a partner
organisation. Courses offered by this alternative approach are listed on
pageÊ140.
A small number of off-campus courses are also taught face-to-face to groups at
locations such as Monash centres or employer sites.
