Synopsis:

Objectives: On successful completion of this unit, students will: 1.nurture and articulate a personal aesthetic; 2.understand basic aspects of the relationship between form and communication; 3.analyse the relationship between written and visual language in order to understand the dynamics and intentions of communication; 4.be able to engage and integrate critical approaches to design research in their work; 5.consider how to exploit theoretical pathways connecting visual form and cultural content; 6.be familiar with basic design research and its connection with historical methodology.

Assessment: Assigned projects: 20% + Major research project: 60% + Journal: 20%

Contact Hours: 2 studio hours and 4 independent study hours per week
