Making art and design: cultural contexts 2A (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: 1.have a greater understanding and appreciation of the perceived and actual role of the artist and designer in society; 2.be aware of and have a sensitive appreciation of cultural differences in the contexts and practices of the Asia-Pacific region; 3. be able to undertake their chosen practice with increase self-awareness of the potential and actual impact of their work upon the greater culture; 4.have refined research and analytical skills, enabling them to make astute and informed evaluations of visual art practices in their own cultures and those of their region; 5.have a broad knowledge of alternative practices within their own discipline area.

Assessment: Short essay (1500 words) 40% + Long essay (2500 words) including class presentation 55% + Reader discussion 5%

Contact Hours: Two 1.5 hour tutorial/lectures per week

Prerequisites: A first year sequence in TAD units for faculty course students or permission for all other students.
