Discourse and Power in the Media and Politics of the Hispanic World (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: Upon completion students should be able to deconstruct institutional texts and understand how the discourse is modulated to achieve particular ends. On completion students should be able to analyse media and political discourses by using critical and discourse analysis frameworks.

Assessment: Two tests (equivalent to 500 words each): 30% + Essay (1500 words): 35% + Seminar paper (1000 words): 15% + Oral presentation (equivalent to 500 words): 10% + Bibliography (equivalent to 500 words): 10%

Contact Hours: 3 hours (1 x 1.5 hour lecture and 1 x 1.5 hour seminar) per week

Prerequisites: SPN2130 and SPN2290 or permission
