Spanish Studies 5 (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to: 1. Converse in Spanish for 20-25 minutes about past, current and hypothetical issues as well as engage in complex conversations and discussions about historical, political and social matters. 2. Be able to comprehend T.V/radio news-reports from different Spanish speaking regions and Hispanic American countries. 3. Write descriptive, narrative, fiction and argumentative passages of up to 1000 words in Spanish, with the help of a Spanish-English dictionary and a reference grammar. 4. Read and comprehend articles using a variety of registers and styles of writing of up to 3500 words in Spanish. 5. Demonstrate an understanding of key aspects of Hispanic cultures and societies.

Assessment: 1 listening comprehension test (750 words): 10% + 2 Compositions (1000 words): 20% + Mid-term test (750 words): 15% + Culture tasks (1000 words): 25% + Final language exam (1000 words): 30% Additional comment: All assessment will be in Spanish.

Contact Hours: 4 hours (2 x 1 hour lectures and 2 x 1 hour tutorials) per week

Prerequisites: A pass in VCE Spanish or equivalent, (language proficiency assessed prior to commencement by appointment made during Orientation week)
