Synopsis:

Objectives: On successful completion of this subject students will be able to 1. Demonstrate an understanding of the scientific principles, biological protection and dosimetry, quality assurance and control, technological characteristics and relevant applications of magnetic resonance medical imagine systems 2. Recognise and describe the normal anatomy, physiology and common pathological appearances of magnetic resonance images of the head and neck, spine, thoracic and abdominal regions and extremities of the head and neck, thoracic and abdominal regions and extremities 3. Describe the relevant protocols, positioning and methods employed in magnetic resonance imaging procedures of the head and neck, spine, thoracic and abdominal regions, and related interventional procedures 4. Critically appraise and analyse technical and clinical issues associated with the production of magnetic resonance images 5. Describe and apply a range of advanced digital image processing tools for both qualitative and quantitative image analysis used in this imaging mode.

Assessment: Examination (3 hours):50% + Written assignments (2x imaging, 2x methods): 50%
