Advanced medical imaging 1 and professional skills 4 (8 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to 1. Demonstrate an understanding of key principles of medical law and medical ethics 2. Identify potential medico-legal and ethical situations arising from clinical practice 3. Describe and participate, under supervision, in the relevant protocols, positioning and methods employed in sonographic examinations of the abdominal organs and related structures as outlined above to the level of a 'beginner practitioner' 4. Recognise and describe the normal sonographic anatomy, physiology and common pathological appearances of sonographic examinations of the abdominal organs and related structures 5. Communicate and understanding of the development of helical (spiral) CT scanners and the z-interpolation methods used in image reconstruction 6. Describe the development of multi-slice CT scanning and discuss its limitations and advantages 7. Communicate an understanding of the differences between single slice axial, helical and multi-slice CT approaches to imaging the thorax and abdomen and the extremities 8. Recognise anatomical structures and pathology on a range of CT images of the abdomen, thorax and extremities including the girdles

Assessment: Written Examination - 55% Image analysis exam - 15% Ultrasound assignment - 10% CT pathology case study - 10% Ultrasound practical skills assessment - 10%

Prerequisites: Completion of level 2, Bachelor of Radiography and Medical Imaging
