Synopsis:

Objectives: At the successful completion of this subject, students should have acquired 1. An understanding of the professional challenges posed by patients with special needs 2. Knowledge concerning the provision of effective and safe care to patients with special needs and those undergoing contrast imaging examinations of the gastrointestinal, urinary, hepato-biliary and cardiovascular systems 3. Skills in the administration of drugs including venepuncture, the control of infection the administration of oxygen and barium, the maintenance of surgical asepsis and recognition of vital signs 4. An understanding of catheterisation and its application in contrast examinations of the gastrointestinal, urinary, hepato-biliary and cardiovascular systems

Assessment: One written examination (2 hours): 55% + One objective structured professional skills examination (30 min): 20% + One investigative assignment: 25%
