Medical imaging and methods 1 (DVI) and digital image processing 1 (8 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: On successful completion of this subject students will be able to 1. Demonstrate an understanding of the scientific pronciples, technological characteristics and relevant applications of digital imaging systems used in vascular and non vascular studies 2. Describe the relevant protocols, positioning and methods employed in digital vascular procedures of the human body and those used in interventional therapeutic procedures 3. Understand and describe the general applications of information technology in medical imaging and its relationship to digital based imaging systems 4. Understand and use a range of basic digital image processing routines used in general and applied applications in digital vascular imaging in medicine 5. Radiographically critique angiographic image appearances and be able to describe and apply a range of basic digital image processing tools for both qualitative and quantitative imaging analysis 6. Participate in a clinical digital vascular procedure as an informed junior member of this team

Assessment: One written examination (3 hours): 50% + Laboratory reports: 30% + SOLAR case based exercises: 20%
