Synopsis:
Objectives: This subject has two components: the respiratory system and the musculoskeletal system comprising the vertebral column, the thorax, the pelvic and shoulder girdles. On completion of this subject students should have a sound understanding of the anatomical and physiological principles pertinent to the respiratory system, have a thorough understanding of the structure and functional relationships of the tissues of the pelvic and shoulder girdles and the axial skeleton [excluding the skull] and their associated joints; have a detailed knowledge of the associated topographic and surface anatomy; have a basic understanding of the common muscular and skeletal disorders affecting the vertebral column, thorax, shoulder and pelvic girdles and their radiographic appearances; have a detailed knowledge of the radiographic appearances of the skeletal and soft tissues elements of the axial skeleton [excluding the skull], pelvic and shoulder girdles, thorax, and respiratory organs.
Assessment: Written examination (3 hours): 60% + Essay: 15% + Image recognition examination (1 hour): 25%
