Publishing Internship Project (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: On completion of this subject students should have: 1. Gained a developed understanding of work in at least one aspect of the publishing industries, e.g. copy editing, sales and marketing, book design. 2. Developed work skills associated with work in at least one aspect of the publishing industries. 3. Undertaken a reflective research project on the aspect of the publishing industries providing the internship experience. 4. Demonstrated a capacity to report and reflect critically on work practices and experiences in the publishing industries. 5 An understanding of the knowledge, practices and/or technology specific to certain branches of the publishing industry.

Assessment: Workplace report or evidence of task work (2000 words): 40%, Reflective Essay (2000 words): 40%, Examination 1 hour 20%

Contact Hours: Minimum of 80-90 hours over the course of semester spent in an industry internship. Equivalent of 12 hours per week contact and private study

Prerequisites: PUB 4001, PUB4002 and PUB4003 or equivalent or with the approval of the co-ordinator.
