Masters Qualifying Research Project (24 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: Students successfully completing their research paper will have produced a substantial piece of philosophy. They will have clearly identified and described the problem that they are addressing. They will have mastered the literature pertinent to the problem, and should have presented it in a clear and coherent way, making clear its bearing on the problem that they are addressing, and drawing any relevant conclusions. A student excelling at this paper will have produced an original contribution to a philosophical issue which is suitable for submission to a scholarly journal.

Assessment: Synopses of key papers (3000 words): 5% + Literature Review (4000 words): 10% + First draft of research project (8 - 10,000 words): 15% + Final revised draft of research project: 60% + Presentation of thesis to Work-in-Progress Seminar (20 - 40 minutes): 10%

Contact Hours: Weekly Work in Progress seminar (2 hours) and fortnightly supervision session.

Prerequisites: Entry to Masters Qualifying in Philosophy.
