Synopsis:

Objectives: On completing this subject students will have an understanding of some central issues in applied ethics and of the role philosophy can play in clarifying the discussion of them. They will have acquired some understanding of the nature and methods of philosophical inquiry, and an enhanced capacity for critical reasoning and rigorous thought.

Assessment: Essay (1200 words): 20% + Five exercises (covering both parts of the course): 40% + Examination (2 hours): 40%

Contact Hours: 3 hours (1 x 1 hour lecture and 1 x 2 hour seminar) per week
