Synopsis:

Objectives: This subject will allow students to extend their knowledge of the biomedical sciences anatomy, physiology, microbiology and pharmacology applicable to the ambulance paramedic beyond that developed in the Diploma of Ambulance Paramedic Studies and the Advanced Diploma of MICA Paramedic Studies. These core sciences are applied within a pathophysiological context to develop in the student a detailed understanding of common disease processes. A knowledge of more advanced relevant pharmacology is also provided in respect of those drugs commonly used or encountered in ambulance practice, including methods of administration.

Assessment: Examination: 50% + Assignment: 50%

Contact Hours: 156 hours including 24 hours direct contact

Prerequisites: employment by an Ambulance Service
