Synopsis:

Objectives: On completion of this unit students should be able to: 1. analyse different contexts in which education occurs in nursing; 2. explore the teaching roles undertaken by nurses within educational and clinical nursing practice settings; 3. identify the characteristics of specific educational roles including nurse academic, clinical teacher, preceptor, and mentor; 4. examine contemporary issues impacting upon education in nursing; 5. apply a range of educational and nursing theories to different nursing education contects through the delivery of classroom and clinical teaching sessions; 6. plan and implement classroom and clinical teaching sessions; 7. evaluate a range of resources that may be utilised in the delivery of nursing education; 8. actively participate in the delivery of nursing education sessions; and 9. examine methods by which both clinical and academic education may be evaluated.

Assessment: Essay 40% + Reflective Journal 20% + Practicum 20% + Fieldwork report 20%
