Integrated mental health care (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: On completion of the unit it is expected that students will be able to: 1. Describe the characteristics of an efficient and cost effective comprehensive mental health service. 2. Discuss the merits of a stress-vulnerability model for intervention in mental disorders. 3. Conduct problem-based assessment of patients who have major mental disorders. 4. Integrate patients and carers into the clinical management of major mental disorders. 5. Teach patients and their carers effective interpersonal communication skills and problem solving methods. 6. Assist people with major mental disorders to maximise their quality of life in the community through the use of living skills training. 7. Describe the essential elements of home-based intensive care.

Assessment: Assignments equivalent to 3000 words: 60% + Computer conference exercises: 40%
