Synopsis:

Objectives: Upon successful completion of this unit, students should have acquired a basic knowledge of the history, style and context of a selected genre, instrument, ensemble or repertoire on a framework within which to identify, categorise and assess and write critically about it.

Assessment: Option One: Critical essay (9,000 words): 90% and three reports of three Research Seminars offered in the semester that the unit is being undertaken (300 words each): 10% Option two: Critical essay (3,600 words): 40% and a recital OR lecture-demonstration (30 mins): 60%
