Applied Music: Arranging, Ensemble Leadership and Conducting (12 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: At the successful completion of this unit students will have developed the skills and knowledge required to successfully create musical materials for a potentially disparate group of musicians and, to be able to offer this group the musical and artistic direction necessary in realising a successful musical performance. Therefore, students will have gained as a minimum, intermediate skills in conducting, orchestration and ensemble management that will have been consolidated around one integrated project.

Assessment: Written (3000 words): 30% + Practical performance and arrangement/composition (6000 words equivalent): 70%

Contact Hours: 3 hours (1 x 2 hour seminar and 1 x 1 hour tutorial) per week
