Synopsis:
Objectives: On completion of this unit students should be able to: 1. identify contemporary health care management, service delivery and policy debates; 2. critically appraise government and non-government approaches to a selection of contemporary health care issues and policy debates; 3. apply a detailed understanding of the principles of leadership, financial and human resource management, strategic and operational planning, law, quality improvement, epidemiology and biostatistics to an analysis of contemporary health care issues; 4. use international comparisons of health care systems to appreciate the complexity of health services management and the range of factors that impact on health service development and reform; 5. understand how the interests of the public and private health sectors, funders, regulators, providers, health service operations and politics impact on the planning of health services; 6. demonstrate an ability to think innovatively about possible approaches to major health care issues, challenges and policy debates.
