Statistical methods in epidemiology (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: On completion of this unit students should be able to: 1. be proficient using a statistical software package to manipulate and analyse data; 2. understand and apply traditional regression methodology for the analysis of epidemiological research data from cohort, case-control and cross-sectional data and examine the appropriateness of these models; 3. present the results of statistical analyses both written and verbally in a concise and coherent fashion; 4. critically appraise the statistical methodology in epidemiological research articles; 5. appreciate the role and apply modern techniques such as models for dealing with clustered data, generalised additive models and the bootstrap.

Assessment: Written assignments + Oral presentation + Class exercises
