Occupational health and safety management (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: This unit aims to provide an introduction to occupational health and safety management. On completion of this unit students should be able to: 1. discuss the human and economic cost and causes of workplace injury and death; 2. describe the legal framework of OHS, including the roles of (a) Robens type legislation; (b)OHS representatives; (c) OHS committees; (d) worker's compensation; (e) common law; (f) unions; 3. describe various injury models; 4. demonstrate an understanding of OHS and rehabilitation program and service management; 5. effectively communicate in writing and in small groups; 6. describe the roles of various persons in management of OHS.

Assessment: Web-based tasks + Assignments + Examination

Contact Hours: 15 contact hours over 2 days

Off-campus attendance requirements: 15 contact hours over 2 days
