Individual performance in the workplace (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: The broad aim of this unit is to develop an understanding of variables which influence individual job performance. Specifically, the first aim is to examine theoretical models and impirical evidence on job design, work performance, motivation, job satisfaction, organisational commitment and stress and well-being. The second aim, is to develop an understanding of training programs, specifically, training needs analysis, devising and delivering a training program and eveluating training processes and outcomes. The third and final aim is to introduce students to human factors.

Assessment: The Theoretical Component is 60% of the final mark. Each student will complete three short essays (750-1000 words each) analysing the assigned readings, including critical analysis of motivational theories, and their practical applications. The Practical Component is completed in pairs, and is 40% of the final mark. It includes preparation of a training needs analysis (1000-1500 words), and an in-class training demonstration.
