Child adolescent and family psychiatry (4 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: On completion of this unit candidates will: 1. display knowledge and skills in the methods of assessment required for children and adolescents; 2. be able to detect and manage common childhood behavioural problems which present in general practice; 3. be able to detect and manage anxiety and depression in children and adolescents; 4. be able to assess suicidality in adolescents and provide appropriate management and referral; 5. be familiar with the common psychological and psychiatric problems which arise during adolescence including eating disorders, substance abuse and risk taking behaviours; 6. appreciate the role of somatisation in children and adolescents.
