Advanced clinical practice (24 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: At the completion of the clinical attachment, each student should be able to 1. Demonstrate appropriate clinical history and examination skills 2. Demonstrate the clinical skills necessary to competently diagnose and manage emergency and non-emergency cases 3. Demonstrate their ability to identify and assimilate presenting problems in the development of an appropriate management plan 4. Demonstrate their understanding of the pathophysiological basis of health and disease 5. Demonstrate their understanding of the context of illness and how this influences the clinical presentation and management 6. Demonstrate their abilities to work as an effective member of a health care team 7. Demonstrate appropriate professional and ethical behaviour with patients and colleagues 8. Demonstrate appropriate communication skills with patients and their families 9. Demonstrate appropriate written and verbal communication skills with colleagues 10. Demonstrate appropriate critical thinking in all aspects of clinical care 11. Demonstrate their ability to perform relevant clinical procedures 12. Demonstrate their ability to apply evidence based medicine to clinical decision making in practice 13. Demonstrate a commitment to independent learning, continuing education and quality assurance activities

Assessment: Continuous assessment + Qualitative report on each selective may be available + Pass grade only

Contact Hours: Four six-week attachments in clinical settings of the student's choice
