Synopsis:

Objectives: The unit will cover: An understanding of the impact of laws either enhancing or restricting the right of workers to join together in trade unions. The role played by the legislature and the courts in developing the concept of freedom of association and the right to strike. The critical evaluation of laws which affect the conduct of associations and their internal regulation and the application of these laws to resolve problems of status, membership and regulation of associations.

Assessment: Research assignment - 4200 words -60% Take home examination - 2800 words - 40%

Contact Hours: 3 hours per week

Prerequisites: Law of Torts and Contract Law or equivalent
