Forensic family law 700 (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: On completion of this subject students will have an understanding of (1) the resolution of family conflict within the existing system of family law, with particular emphasis on alternative dispute resolution; (2) the role of the judiciary and the legal profession in the resolution of disputes, particularly on matters of property and of the custody of children; (3) pre-trial procedures, registrars' conferences and counselling intervention and other resources of the system. Students should be able to make a judgment on whether those resources are used to best advantage and in the best interests of litigants. (4) The place of expert evidence and of technical information will also be looked at with a view to enhancing students' understanding of the extent to which the preparation of materials and their presentation may influence the outcome of a case.

Assessment: Final Examination (3 hours): 100%
