Theory and Practice of Translation B ( points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: The objectives of this unit are: 1. To provide students with a basic understanding of the major theoretical concerns and choices confronting all translators. 2. To share with students some practical techniques concerning the mechanics and strategies frequently used in actual translation processo. 3. To provide students with practice in translating a variety of texts. 4. To provide students with good writing skills particularly in their B language. 5. To provide students with an overview of the main requirements of NAATI accreditation

Assessment: Weekly Exercises 30%, Mid-semester test Translation of text of approx. 1000 words within time limit 20%, End-of-semester test Translation of a long set text 50%

Contact Hours: 1.5 hours of lecture per week

Prerequisites: Successful completion of Japanese 10 or Japan Foundation's Japanese Language Proficiency Test Level 2 or equivalent, and English competency (a minimum of IELTS 6.5). Approval from the unit coordinator.
