Synopsis:

Objectives: Upon successful completion of this unit, students will: 1. Be aware of basic theoretical issues concerning interpreting and translating and their practical implications. 2. Have developed strategies for processing spoken and written texts from English into Japanese and vice versa. 3. Have improved their competence in their non-native language (Japanese or English).

Assessment: Mid semester tests (1 hour): 20% + Translation and interpreting exercises: 40% + Final tests (2 hours): 40%

Contact Hours: 4 hours (1 x 1 hour lecture and 3 hours tutorials/seminars) per week

Prerequisites: Japanese 9 or equivalent and good competence in written and spoken English

Prohibitions: JPL1100, JPL3100, JPL4100, JLG4100, JLG5100
