Industrial design studio 2 (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: On successful completion of this unit, students will: 1.understand and enjoy the challenge of designing consumer objects geared to mass production; 2.have an appreciation of the practical and theoretical nature of industrial design, in particular the intimate relationship between rational processes and inspirational factors in design; 3.have an appreciation of user-centred design criteria; 4.be able to identify, analyse, and interpret the general characteristics of design tasks; 5.understand simple models of the design process and their applications; 6.plan for and efficiently undertake simple three-dimensional projects with regard to functional, technical, structural and aesthetic design criteria.

Assessment: Projects: 100%, of which at least 20% will be assessed in the early part of the programme.

Contact Hours: 4 hours studio contact and 8 independent study hours
