On the Edge of Destruction: Polish Jewry Between the Two World Wars (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: As for HSY2425, with the additional objectives that students will be expected to demonstrate: 1. A more sophisticated understanding and appreciation of the historiographical issues. 2. A more extensive use of primary sources, as well as a greater level of depth and sophistication in their engagement with these sources.

Assessment: Research essay (2000 words): 40% + An historiographical exercise (1000 words): 20% + Exam (1.5 hours, 1500 words equivalent): 30% + Seminar preparation and participation: 10% + Students taking the subject at Level 3 will be expected to demonstrate more sophisticated analytical skills and submit work incorporating a higher level of competence in independent reading and research.

Contact Hours: 1 hour lecture and 1.5 hour seminar per week
