Introduction to Human Geography (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: Upon satisfactory completion of this subject, students will be able to 1. Understand similarities and differences between places, localities and areas in a wide range of the human landscape. 2. Understand interactions between people and their environments at a variety of geographical scales ranging from local, through regional and national to, increasingly, global. 3. Synthesise and interpret relevant material and to communicate ideas to others in a coherent manner, by either written or verbal means. 4. Be familiar and proficient with some simple techniques for conducting research and analysing data.

Assessment: Essay (1600 words): 35% + 2 hour examination (2000 words): 45% + Practical Work (450 words): 10% + Field Trip (450 words): 10%

Contact Hours: One one-hour lecture and a three-hour tutorial/practical per week
