Waterway engineering (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: Understand the hydrologic processes involved in flood estimation; principles involved in open channel flow; hydraulic principles and methods involved in estimating flood levels; and the fundamentals of risk analysis in relation to catchment flows and determining water levels in channels. Acquire skills to estimate catchment flows and determine the behaviour of flow in open channels, rivers and associated flood plains.

Assessment: Project (50%) and a 3 hour closed book exam (50%). Students are expected to pass both the exam and the assignment work to gain a pass in the unit
