Ethical, Clinical and Professional Practice in Counselling Psychology (12 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: As a result of studying this unit students are expected to understand the ethical, social, legal and moral obligations of counselling psychologists. This includes gaining a clear understanding of the ethical requirements of the Australian Psychological Society and the Psychologists Registration Board of Victoria and their functions and processes in dealing with ethical matters; develop and demonstrate appropriate decision-making processes regarding ethical dilemmas. This includes testing and demonstrating your capabilities of critical thinking about the higher level conceptualisation of the ethical, legal and psychological issues associated with human behaviour and psychological practice; determine limits of professional competency in a range of situations, and be prepared to make appropriate referrals; develop and monitor your own competency and well-being as clinicians.

Assessment: One class presentation and accompanying paper (20 minutes each, totalling 2000 words): 35% + one essay (3000 words): 35% + one in-class test* (3000 words): 30%: (*For off-campus students - in-class test shall be given during the one-week Residential school)

Contact Hours: 3 hours per week

Off-campus attendance requirements: When offered off-campus, students must attend a one-week Residential school
