Method and practice of teaching accounting A (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: Upon successful completion of this unit, students should be able to understand the role and importance of developing financial literacy in relation to the teaching and learning associated with Accounting and Finance in the secondary school context; to explore innovative teaching and learning approaches including the use of information and communications technologies for use in the Accounting classroom; to construct engaging lesson plans which lead to the best possible outcomes for students in the Accounting classroom; to select and evaluate appropriate teaching and learning resources for use in the Accounting and Business Studies classroom; to describe the profession of Accounting and the promotion of financial literacy within the context of the school and global environments using appropriate terms; to communicate and or create links with Accounting and professional associations at both the local and international level.

Assessment: Class activities: 50% (2000 words), Resources assignment: 50% (2000 words) + Teaching practice which forms a major part of the assessment of EDF5492 Methods and Practice of Teaching Accounting A and EDF5493 Methods and Practice of Teaching Accounting B, and students must complete at least 45 days teaching practice (50 for double degree students) and gain a rating of satisfactory for the teaching practice.

Contact Hours: 3 hours per week

Prerequisites: A minor sequence (two years of study) in Accounting studies from a recognised institution
