Synopsis:

Objectives: Jewish Education is concerned with that part of the school curriculum that is involved with the study of the nature of Jewish culture, history and values; is concerned with the effective transmission of the full range of Jewish texts central to Jewish civilisation to ensure the highest degree of cultural literacy; will enable students to develop strong knowledge-based positive attitudes and values central to a mature understanding of Judaism in modern open society.

Assessment: A precondition for a pass in this method is a pass in Teaching Practice and an 80% attendance rate for all timetabled classes. Students must also have attained a satisfactory level of achievement for each of the following tasks: an essay on Jewish Philosophy-20 %, Seminar preparation and presentation-30%, a Project involving the development of a unit of work on either Jewish History or an aspect of the Jewish Religion-50%

Contact Hours: 3 hours per week

Prerequisites: Recognised three-year degree or equivalent . Preferred candidates must have undertaken studies in one or both (1) Hebrew literature (2) Language and Jewish studies/history
