Synopsis:

Objectives: The objectives of this unit are to realise and justify the importance of teaching Chemistry in the secondary school curriculum; to demonstrate an awareness of issues associated with the study of Chemistry. These include the relationship between science, technology and society; real world chemistry; the barriers raised by traditional science and chemistry curricula.

Assessment: Assignments: 45% + Teaching portfolio: 30%, Class Presentations: 25% Students must complete at least 45 days teaching practice (50 for double degree students) and gain a rating of satisfactory for the teaching practice + Student participation in the unit is vital and an 80% attendance requirement is required so students can fully participate in the workshops via attendance or on-line chat forum.
