Method and Practice of Teaching Information Technology/Computing B (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: Upon successful completion of this subject, students should have developed knowledge and understandings about appropriate teaching strategies for teaching and assessing technology in secondary schools; national and Victorian curriculum requirements for technology education; strategies to both introduce technology to a school and to overcome any problems that may be encountered in such an exercise; facilities (buildings and equipment) needed to support technology; support available to teachers of technology through professional associations and literature. Students should have developed skills of teaching and class management appropriate to the area of technology; designing and presenting projects as the major teaching and learning strategy for technology; devising, organising and implementing suitable programs of technology for each level of secondary schooling; devising and implementing procedures for assessing pupils' work in technology. Students should have developed attitudes in valuing technology as an important new area of learning; developed a commitment to the continued development and improvement of technology; developed both an instrumental and critical appreciation of technology.

Assessment: Applications and context presentation 80% (3000 words) + Teaching round folio 20% + Student participation in the unit is vital either on-campus or via the on-line forum + Students must complete at least 45 days teaching practice and gain a rating of satisfactory for the teaching practice.
