Method and Practice of Teaching Mathematics A (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: This unit is based on a number of broad objectives which will enable successful students to broaden their awareness of mathematics as a subject; develop knowledge of teaching styles and assessment methods for mathematics; explore the needs of various groups of students and consider the range of factors that can influence learning outcomes; develop knowledge of the resources available to a teacher of mathematics; learn about aspects of school mathematics not previously studied; and examine critically the mathematics curriculum and its underpinning principles.

Assessment: Teaching round observation and reflection 30% (1000 words) + Content area analysis 70% (3000 words) + Student participation in the unit is vital either on-campus or via the on-line forum.

Contact Hours: 3 hours per week

Prerequisites: Mathematics minor
