Method and Practice of Teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) A (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: The learning objectives of this unit are to understand the process of language learning; to appreciate the range and diversity of ESL learners; to become familiar with the major curriculum documents in the area; to gain an overview of ESL methodology. As a result of studying this unit students are expected to plan appropriately to meet the needs of ESL learners; base their teaching on an understanding of TESL theory.

Assessment: Class profile (2000 words) 20% + Case Study (2000 words) 20% + Class Participation 10% + Teaching practice forms a major part of the assessment for this unit. The two assessment tasks are completed in conjunction with the teaching practicum + An 80% attendance rate is required in order for students to participate fully in workshop activities.
