Synopsis:

Objectives: Upon successful completion of this unit, students should be able to critically reflect on their personal beliefs, values and experiences in regard to unit English and in regard to their teaching of this unit; competently use a variety of communication strategies in different modes and in different teaching and learning contexts; actively participate in professional conversations about a range of issues in relation to the content of unit English; pedagogy, curriculum, assessment and values in unit English; and collegial interaction across a range of contexts in unit English; collaboratively devise a writing unit that enables students to write fluently, confidently and with an awareness of the significance of purpose, audience, mode and context in this writing; evaluate their own experience in teaching English in schools.

Assessment: Assessment: written assignment (2000 words); development of curriculum materials (2000 words)

Contact Hours: 3 hours per week

Prerequisites: Bachelor of Arts with a major study in English or linguistics, a minor study in English or linguistics is essential.
