Perspectives of Early Childhood Education (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: As a result of studying this unit students are expected to demonstrate knowledge of a range of different ideas and theories that have, across time, contributed to current early childhood educational philosophy and pedagogy; understanding of how these theories reflect or react against their prevailing historical, social and/or cultural contexts; ability to reflect on the existing social, cultural, historical and economic conditions existing in Australia today (and/or in their own international/cultural setting) that influence the provision of early childhood services with this context; ability to draw upon knowledge of various theories to discuss appropriate early childhood practices that support and extend young children's growth, development and learning within this context.

Assessment: Task 1: Students will be required to undertake research and class seminar with an accompanying report (2200) words: 45%. Task 2: An essay (2800 words): 55%.
