Health and wellbeing in the primary curriculum (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: On completion of this unit, students should be able to: i. Use critical and reflective thinking skills in the analysis of the primary school curriculum across a variety of contexts, including theories of curriculum construction ii. Identify and apply unique approaches to teaching, within an integrated primary school curriculum, drawn from topics within Health and Physical Education, Science and Technology, and the Expressive Arts iii. Identify and utilize the ways in which children's development, classroom materials, and the wider learning environment create opportunities for diversity in teaching and learning.

Assessment: Assignment 1: Students will be required to give a tutorial presentation, identifying the salient features of a selected curriculum document (1000 word equivalent) 25% + Assignment 2: Students will be required to plan, implement, and evaluate an integrated primary school unit of work with respect to children's physical development (3000 word equivalent) 75%
