Synopsis:

Objectives: It is anticipated that as an outcome of this study students will be able to identify key development and learning factors specific to children aged 5-8 years; understand the importance of play and how it can be incorporated into programs/curriculum for children in the junior school; demonstrate respect for and respond appropriately to young children's socio-cultural backgrounds; appreciate the responsibilities required to work in partnerships with families and professional teams; demonstrate an understanding of the research and theory related to curriculum/program planning for children 5-8 years.

Assessment: Research project (2400 words): 60% + Literature review (1600 words): 40% + Hurdle requirement: 80% attendance at lectures/tutorials
