Synopsis:
Objectives: To satisfy the requirements of this unit the student will demonstrate evidence of having an increased awareness of themselves as learners and teachers; reflective practice through participation in a community of learners, critically examining personal assumptions about learning and ways the curriculum may be constructed; deepening understandings of the way curriculum develops from different theoretical perspectives; having questioned their image of the child and how that influences them as learners and teachers; having developed practical understandings of the 'pedagogy of listening'; a deepening appreciation of the similarities and differences between home and educational settings on children's learning; a more informed position on the various roles others play in children development and learning; adopting a more critical approach to the primary curriculum; deeper appreciation of the current issues in junior primary schools; an appropriate level of competency in planning for, engaging in and monitoring of children's learning.
Assessment: Assessment: Pass Grade Only (PGO) + Fieldwork project (2000 word equivalence) + Folio of Practical studies + Satisfactory completion of the Practicum program + Hurdle Requirement: Undertaking of set homework tasks and participation in follow up discussion and group work.
