Studio Arts: Computer Art (Education) (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: The broad aims of this unit are to develop an understanding of key concepts in digital art practice including electronic image creation, manipulation, editing, scanning, digital photography, resolution and translation requirements; to develop appropriate processes for and experiment with selected digital art software and peripheral devices; to develop design, composition, drawing and typography skills relevant to the electronic environment; to develop an understanding of the complexity and richness of various output options within the digital art framework; ranging from digital prints, and slide shows to mixed media artworks; to gain an awareness of contemporary art practice and theory and a growing understanding of the role of computer art within studio practice, the school environment and society in general; to develop personal expression by investigation of a chosen theme and to develop skills in folio presentation and display; to document techniques and approaches that demonstrate a reflective and reflexive approach to learning in this unit; to develop aesthetic and critical awareness by reflecting and responding to artwork, as well as a growing understanding of relevant terminology.

Assessment: Seminar paper of 1000 words, 20%, folio comprising one practical piece, drawing and proof folio, and resource folder, 80%): 100%

Contact Hours: 2 hours per week

Prerequisites: EDP1303 or EDF2122 + Levy fee + offered bi-annually
