Child Development 3: Child Health and Safety (6 points)

Synopsis:

Objectives: As a result of studying this unit students are expected to understand the principles of health and safety routines and management in early childhood settings; understand the importance of maintaining healthy lifestyles for themselves and the children they work with in preschool or childcare settings; interpret the Victorian Children's Services Regulations 1998 and the Children's Services Act 1996 as they relate to health and safety routines and practices; reflect on the implications of child health and safety issues in early childhood educational and care settings.

Assessment: Exam (equivalent 2000 words): 50% + Portfolio on Health and Safety topic (3 parts), Newsletter article, Design poster and Research of 3 agencies on the topic (1200 words): 30% + Journal Review 20% (800 words)
